Belize is a small country,
about the size of Massachusetts, which makes its diversity of sea,
jungle, rainforest, mountains, caves, rivers, ruins and islands all the
more remarkable.
But, because of its small
size, a Belize vacation of a week or more can combine jungle,
mountains and sea -- either through day trips from one location, or by
splitting time between a jungle lodge and a seaside resort.
We've put together some
sample Belize vacation packages for the 2007/2008 Winter/Spring Belize
vacation
season,
including costs, to help you in planning your Belize vacation.
Plus,
our Jungle/Beach Mix and Match packages allow you to combine different
jungle and beach locations and
get a rough idea of costs for
different variations, including transfers.
Contact
us if you'd like further information on
any of our packages, want to check date availability, or put together a
custom vacation, honeymoon or other special trip. (Helping
our clients put together vacations tailored specifically to their
interests, tastes and budget is our specialty).
Also,
remember that our package itineraries are just samples and can be modified to
suit individual interests, group sizes, time schedule, etc. (And,
don't forget to check
our
Fishing Specials Page
for fishing-only trip ideas.)
Southern Jungles
and Southern Seas
|
The
Southern Jungles and Southern Seas package starts at the very special
Hickatee Cottages located just outside Punta Gorda Town in the
southernmost Toledo District of Belize.
Hickatee is
small (only 3 very comfortable cottages), literally carved out of the
jungle, and beautifully landscaped with native southern Belize jungle
plants. Howler Monkeys call on both sides of the lodge day and
night, and the birding is wonderful -- as are the meals cooked by Kate
Morton, one of the owners of Hickatee (along with Ian, her husband).
During your
stay at Hickatee, you'll visit the Lubaantun Mayan ruins, kayak the Joe
Taylor Creek with an expert birding and kayaking guide, hike the jungle
and swim under a jungle waterfall. (If you've ever dreamed of
diving into a pure jungle river backed by a cascading jungle waterfall,
this is your chance to indulge those Tarzan fantasies).
|
| |
|
On
the fourth day of your southern Belize jungle and beach
adventure, you'll take a short flight from the Punta Gorda
airstrip to Placencia Village, a small Creole fishing
village that many people say may be the most laid back place
in Central or South America. (In addition to being laid
back, Placencia also has the best beaches on mainland
Belize.)
Lodging
in Placencia can be in a small beach cabana, such as Las
Amigas, shown at left, Westwind Hotel, a small family-owned
beach hotel on one of Placencia's best beaches, or a first
floor beach apartment with full kitchen, living/dining area,
verandah, and wonderful hosts.
Placencia activities include a snorkeling trip to Laughing
Bird Caye, and and a Monkey River tour.

Crystal Tides
|
Our
Belize Crystal Tides Package starts in the jungle with 3 nights at Crystal
Paradise Resort, owned and managed by the Tut Family, a wonderful
Belizean family in which mom supervises the meals, the sons guide
guests (and have an excellent international birding reputation),
dad keeps things ship-shape, and the daughters handle the
administrative side of things (and most anything else that comes
up).
Good food, a wide range of activities, comfortable lodging in
thatched cabanas, a beautiful location on the banks of the Macal
River and reasonable rates make Crystal Paradisean
excellent choice for families and travelers who are looking for
good value in clean and comfortable surroundings with a healthy
dose of authentic Belizean hospitality. |
| |
|
Four
nights at the Tides Beach Resort is the next stop after your jungle
sojourn at Crystal Paradise. The Tides is also owned
and operated by the Paz family, another wonderful Belizean
family.
Patojo Paz runs the dive shop and will make sure you have a
great time snorkeling, diving, fishing, kayaking and
sailing. Sabrina Paz efficiently handles running the
resort, doing everything from the books to making your lunch
for your flats fishing trip.
The
location of The Tides is a good one, too. About a 10 minute
walk into San Pedro Town, close enough to allow guests to sample
lots of local restaurants, go to a few local dances and get to
know some native San Pedranos, while also being far enough away to
be quiet and peaceful. And, with only 12 air conditioned
rooms in an oceanfront British colonial style building (including
a a swimming pool) means lots of individual attention in very
comfortable surroundings.
