The people and the
place. Both make Placencia special But, sometimes even special people
and special places need help. Local organizations and individuals have identified
the following projects as areas in which your help would be greatly appreciated (and thank
you in advance for whatever help you can give):
Pets/Placencia Humane
Society. Placencia formed the first Placencia
Humane Society Chapter in October, 1999.
Children's education about pets has been
identified as the Chapter's first order of business.
Therefore, any donations of pet-oriented coloring
books, videos and craft projects would be greatly appreciated.
Izzy and Mitch at left. Mitch was found in
Big Creek during Hurricane Mitch. One-week old Izzy was found abandoned on our back
steps.
These
little guys to the right were found orphaned
on our front veranda. (Names are now Bully, Nosey,
Jackie and Munchkin and they have found a good
home.)
The Humane Society also appreciates
donations of
pet products such as leashes and collars, flea
shampoo and collars, combs, brushes, etc.
A donation can is available at the
Purple Space Monkey Internet Cafe. Pet supplies and children's books and videos can
be dropped off at the Internet Cafe. Any help you can give would be greatly
appreciated.
Library
Books: Patricia, our librarian, says the library needs books for
children and young adults, also adult current fiction. No textbooks, please.
Books can be dropped off at our offices or taken directly to the library located behind
Omar's Diner.
The Monkey River schools are also in desperate
need of children's books of any kind. Contact us about donations for
Monkey River.
Baby clothes:
Some of our local families have a hard time making ends meet, especially those
headed by single mothers with young children. Infant clothing in sizes up to one
year is particularly welcome. You can drop the clothes off at our offices at One
World Gift Shop.
Sports Center:
Most of us adults revel in the quiet, unhurried and peaceful atmosphere of
Placencia. However, children and young adults, with their seemingly boundless
energy, sometimes find life here a little, well, unexciting. Organized recreation
(basketball, soccer) are important activities to give that energy a productive
outlet. Donations are needed to repair, maintain and improve the ballfields and
equipment. See below for donation information.
Donations:
Donations can be made by check, MasterCard or Visa or cash.
 |
MasterCard
and VISA: Most organizations do not have their own MC and VISA
accounts. However, you can make a credit card donation through our charge accounts,
and you will receive a letter from the appropriate organization acknowledging the
donation. Use our credit card deposit form, and note the
purpose of the donation on the form. We'll process the charge and deliver the funds
to the Placencia chapter. A formal acknowledgment letter will then be sent to you
directly from the organization receiving the donations. |
 |
Checks:
For donations to the Humane Society, make your check out to the Placencia Chapter, Belize
Humane Society and Animal Shelter, Tourism Industry Association, and mail care of Kevin
Modera Guide Services, General Delivery, Point Placencia, Stann Creek District, Belize,
Central America (please don't abbreviate Central America - your mail will go to Central
Africa before it comes here). For donations for sports activities, make your check
out to the Placencia Village Council and indicate the purpose of the donation in a cover
letter. We'll take care of getting the check to the Village Council for you.
As with a charge account donation, you will receive a formal letter of acknowledgment from
the Village Council (make sure to give us your return address information). Checks
will take anywhere from 3 - 6 weeks to arrive in Placencia by mail. |
 |
Cash:
If you'd prefer to make a cash donation while you're here, you can stop by the Purple
Space Monkey Internet Cafe for donations to the Humane Society. Cash donations to
the Village Council can be given directly to us, or Village Council Members Glen Eiley
(Aquatic Adventures, Janice Leslie, Tradewinds Hotel and J-Byrd's Bar, George Westby,
Westwinds Hotel, or Lydia Villanueva, Lydia's Rooms. If you make your donation
directly to the Humane Society or Village Council, we'd appreciate it if you'd let us know
about the donation so that we can keep track of donations generated by our Website. |
