Jungle Journeys |
Many Mopan Maya now residing in
Maya Centre Village formerly lived within the Cockscomb
Basin Wildlife Sanctuary boundary, but were relocated to the Village when the
Sanctuary and Reserve were legally established.
Because of their intimate
knowledge of the jungle, ruins, birds, wildlife, plants, insects, waterways, waterfalls
and environment of the Sanctuary and Reserve, Maya Centre guides such as Julio Saqui and William
Sho provide visitors with a unique jungle and ruins experience.

p.m. arrival at Maya Centre Village; dinner with Mayan hosts, night-time jungle trek;
overnight at Mejen Tz'il Lodge or Nu'uk Che'il Cottages; early morning
birding; breakfast with Mayan hosts; tubing in the Stann Creek River or Cabbage Haul
Creek. Cost:
$120 USD per person, including guided tours, dinner, breakfast, overnight lodging, hotel
tax (but not including 8% Belize sales tax). (Minimum 2 persons).

Cockscomb Day Adventure |

Travel
one of 4 routes through the Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary -- and discover an environment
full of wonders and mysteries -- the wild yam leaf that may heal some skin cancers, the
sacred copal tree with berries that can prevent motion sickness, wild peccaries, jungle
waterfalls, parrots, fly catchers, orioles, leaf cutter ants (they're blind, you know, and
forge ahead by scent alone) -- we can't predict what you'll find because each day and each
trip is a unique adventure.

Other
Mayan jungle adventures that can be arranged upon request include:
- Outboundary Cockscomb Adventure: Full day and overnight guided camping trip
in the Cockscomb jungle (departs from Maya Centre Village at 8 a.m. on day 1, return to
Maya Centre Village at approximately 3 p.m. on day 2). Participants must supply
their own tents, food and water. $190 USD per person, minimum 2 persons.

- Victoria Peak: Two to six night jungle adventure that can

Transportation:
Ground transport by private vehicle can be
arranged from Dangriga or Placencia. (However, for a truly authentic experience, we
highly recommend local bus service. A local escort can also be provided for bus
trips.)
