Maya Immersion Journey

Participants in the Mayan Immersion Journey spend a minimum of 3 days and 2 nights in Maya Centre Village, the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and the Mayflower Archeological Reserve.

All activities are led by a native Mayan guide from the Village and participants are assigned a host family from the Village.  Host families allow participants to learn firsthand about both traditional and modern Mayan cultures -- and hopefully make some new Maya friends.

The Maya Immersion Journey's basic itinerary is as follows (basic itinerary may be customized for groups of 4 or more -- times are approximate and may vary depending on weather and other local conditions during a trip):

Day 1

Check-in at Mejen Tz'il's Lodge or Nu'uk Che'il Cottages in Maya Centre Village; breakfast with Host Family in Host Family's home
  «« 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Cockscomb Day Adventure at Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (including lunch and tubing)
  «« 5:00 p.m. - 6 :30 p.m. Break
  «« 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Dinner with Host Family
  «« 8:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. Nocturnal guided tour of Cockscomb Sanctuary focusing on area wildlife
  ««11:30 p.m. - 4:00 a.m. Overnight in Maya Centre Village
Day 2  
  «« 7:30 a.m. -   8:00 a.m. Breakfast with Host Family
  «« 8:00 a.m. -   8:30 a.m. Break
  «« 8:30 a.m. -  5:00 p.m. Maya Cultural Journey
  «« 5:00 p.m. -  6:00 p.m. Break
  «« 6:00 p.m. -  7:00 p.m. Dinner with Host Family
  «« 7:00 p.m. -  ? Evening cultural performance featuring native music and dance
  Overnight in Maya Centre Village
Day 3  
  ««  5:30 a.m. -   6:00 a.m. Snack
  ««  6:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Guided Birding in the Cockscomb Basin area
  «« 10:00 a.m. -10:30 a.m. Breakfast with Host Family
  «« 10:30 a.m. - Noon Break for packing, etc.
  ««  Noon - 1:30 p.m. Farewell lunch with Host Family
  Depart Maya Centre Village

Gear and Packing Suggestions

Cost for the above 3 days/2 nights is $620 USD per person (minimum 2 persons - larger group and direct Internet booking discounts available), including the following:

  • 2 nights at Maya Centre Village at either Mejen Tz'il's Lodge or Nu'uk Che'il Cottage (double occupancy)
  • Full day guided tour of Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Guided nocturnal tour of Cockscomb Sanctuary
  • Early morning guided birding tour of Cockscomb Sanctuary
  • Full day guided Maya Cultural Journey in Maya Centre Village
  • River Tubing
  • Evening cultural performance with native music and dance
  • Meals:  3 breakfasts; 3 lunches; 2 dinners; 1 snack
  • Mayan Family Hosting
  • Belize hotel tax and sales tax on meals and guide services

Cost does not include:

  • International air transportation
  • Belize departure tax ($20 USD per person)
  • Transportation to Maya Centre Village (Ground transportation can be arranged upon request.  However, for a truly authentic experience, we highly recommend local bus service.  A local escort can also be provided for bus trips.)
  • Alcoholic beverages, gratuities, personal items, souvenirs
  • Meals other than as specifically described above
  • Trip cancellation insurance
