The residents of Placencia Peninsula recently
learned of a proposal by Mrs. Elizabeth Zabaneh, President of the Belize Senate, to build
a causeway over the Placencia Lagoon linking Independence Village and Placencia Village.
Peninsula residents are extremely concerned about the effects of a
causeway on the ecology of the Lagoon, the quality of life in Placencia, and its effect on
our economic and social structures.
Therefore, we invite you to read the proposal, as
as well as some of the local responses generated by it.
If you have any comments, please email them to us and we will forward them to
the appropriate people in our community for review and consideration.
(Also, please excuse the slow download times, we
wanted to reproduce the actual documents rather than retyping their content.)
Please note: services
and goods in Belize are subject to a 12.5%
general sales tax (GST). Hotels/resorts must charge a 9% hotel tax
on accommodations.
By law, all rates quoted for goods and services must include the GST, but
quoted hotel room rates need not include the hotel tax. All of our package rates include both
GST and hotel taxes. As required by law, rates for tours quoted on our
Website include the 12.5% GST. Many hotels and resorts also
impose a service charge. We have included service charges in package
rates unless specifically stated otherwise.
