Southern Belize offers some of the
best saltwater fly fishing,
light tackle and trolling anglers can find anywhere.
The waters around Placencia (Dangriga south to
Punta Gorda) are justifiably famous for permit
fishing (which many anglers believe to be the best in the world).
|
|
But southern Belize fishing isn't just
about permit - other abundant species include
bones, tarpon, snook, King Mackerel, tuna (Black- and
Yellow- fin), snappers (Cubera, Mutton, Gray, Yellowtail), Barracuda,
Crevalle Jack, Grouper (Black, Red, Tiger, Yellowfin) and Wahoo. (See
our Species Guide page for more information
on local fish.) |
|
Local guides such as Wyatt
Cabral, Martin Westby, Daniel Cabral, Dermin Shivers, Bruce Leslie, Julian
Cabral, Jermaine Westby, George Garbutt, Earl
Godfrey, Charles Leslie and Kurt Godfrey are well-known for their knowledge
of local waters and general guiding ability.
(See our
Guides page for information on a few
of the area's best licensed fishing guides.)

Finally, anglers traveling with
non-anglers (yes, such people do exist) will find Belize a great place for
keeping friends and family members occupied while the really important
fishing is going on. |
| |
|
Activities that
can be scheduled for non-fishing companions include caving, Mayan ruins, jungle hikes, birding, jungle
horseback riding, snorkeling, scuba diving and river trips -- plenty to keep
"them" busy while you're out stalking the flats. |
