2012 Maya Immersion
This
week-long Maya of Belize immersion package is based in Placencia
Village, a small beach village in southern Belize, where the ancient
Maya made salt and based small settlements on the cayes (islands) off
the Placencia coast and around the Placencia Lagoon.
Maya-focused
activities include an introductory seminar on the history of the Maya in
Belize at the Maya Centre Museum, including Maya music and dance
demonstrations, visits to two Mayan villages and Mayan families living
in those villages, and tours of the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Reserve and
Lim Li Punit Mayan ruins. (Tour participants also receive the
book, The Ancient Maya of Belize, by Dr. Jaime Awe, the head of
the Belize Department of Archaeology.)
All tours are
led by a professionally licensed Mayan tour guide raised in the small
Maya village of Red Bank in southern Belize with 12 years of guiding
experience.
Lodging
is in 1 or 2 bedroom seaview or seafront villas at Chabil Mar Villas in
Placencia. Chabil Mar offers guests 2 seafront infinity swimming
pools, full service restaurant (and 24 hour room service), spa services,
concierge services, and complimentary bikes and kayaks.
Rates
start at US$2,708 per person and include lodging, domestic air and
ground transfers, 6 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 5 dinners, tours as
noted above, 3 one-half days golf cart use, all site entrance fees,
hotel tax, sales tax and hotel and restaurant service charges.
Rates do
not include international air, Belize departure tax (US$39.75 per
person), meals other than as described above, guide and driver
gratuities, personal items and incidentals, souvenirs or trip
cancellation insurance.
